As Steve Jobs always say in his keynote, “there’s just one more thing ….” Over here in TWIA, we have managed to obtain one more special interview during Echelon 2010 (before our 50th episode). Varsha Rao, CEO, SingTel Digital Media (which manages inSing.com) discussed her thoughts on her work in inSing.com, social media marketing & the focus on localized content to engage consumers. She also shared her thoughts on Echelon 2010 conference and the case presentation on Indonesia during Echelon 2010.
About Varsha Rao: Varsha Rao has been CEO of SingTel Digital Media, the publisher of InSing.com since 2008 where she oversees all aspects of STDM from product development and marketing to content, technology, sales and finance across the web and mobile platforms. She is an industry veteran having spent more than 10 years working in the digital space spanning both the United States as well as in Asia and across the web and mobile.
Prior to joining STDM, Varsha was Vice President/General Manager of Old Navy Online, one of the leading ecommerce businesses within the US where she grew the business by nearly 100% over 2 years. Her internet career began in 1998 when she co-founded Eve.com, an e-commerce beauty and accessories website. Her interest in the digital space crystallized during her stint at McKinsey & Co. where she co-authored a paper entitled: Internet Advertising: New Medium or New Marketing Paradigm, McKinsey Quarterly, August 2007.
She hopes to bring the advertiser and publisher’s perspective to the IAB as she’s held roles in both these capacities. Also, in addition to the web, she’d like to help further the development of mobile advertising, an exciting emerging platform. Varsha graduated with Distinction from Harvard Business School and received her BS in Economics, from the University of Pennsylvania.
