This Week in Asia Episode 40: Nicholas Aaron Khoo from SCOGA & CNET

TWiA-logo Following our special interview series for Echelon 2010, Daniel and Chew Lin engages Nicholas Aaron Khoo (@geekonomics) from Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) and CNET to a conversation about online gaming in Asia. During the interview, Nic shares his experiences on the community work in the realm of online gaming through SCOGA, his thoughts on the panel “Social Gaming – How a Fast Rising Global Phenomenon is Developing in Asia” and what he will engage his fellow panelists on that topic and also the sessions in Echelon 2010 which he looks forward to.

About Nicholas Aaron Khoo: Nicholas is the Co-founder & Chairman, SCOGA and CNET Blogger, CBS Interactive Pte Ltd. Nicknamed “Gadget Boy” by friends at age 18 because he used to scribble Grafitti on a PalmPilot faster than most would type, today Nicholas Aaron Khoo lugs a 5kg dual-screen and dual hard disk Lenovo W700ds (nicknamed “Chewie”) everywhere he goes because it’s the only Thinkpad that he can play Modern Warfare 2 on full resolution without lag and tweet simultaneously on the second screen, complete with disaster recovery on the RAID drive for that good night’s sleep.

When he’s not pretending to be the gadget-loaded Batman, Nicholas pretends to mentor tech startups and advise ‘un’Fortune 500s and government agencies on their tech and digital media strategies and policies. When he’s done pretending, Nicholas spends the rest of his time on community work, especially on the non-profit gaming association he co-founded and chairs on online and video games, with a focus on cyber-wellness and cyber-sports.

Although he will probably never complete a full marathon carrying a knee injury, this is one geek blogger who has not only survived but somehow won the Judges’ Choice for Singapore’s very first 24 hours non-stop Blogathon.
