This Week in Asia Episode 25: All about Tudou

TWiA-logo Finally, we hit the first milestone for This Week in Asia (#TWIA) – our first 25th episode landmark, right before the coming live show in Barcamp KL this Saturday, the crew sat down to talk about new happenings for Echelon 2010, the differences between China and US markets in the area of video content sharing, how VPNs are helping to crack the Great Firewall of China, and last but not least, we get breaking news during our show that Mobinode TV (from our friend Gang Lu) is now a content partner with Tudou as well. If that is not enough, we also talked about the Facebook F8 conference and how the new Open Graph APIs will affect Asian users. We share some details about the coming live show happening in Barcamp KL this Saturday.

  • Joi Ito (who has been interviewed for the Neoteny Conference on our podcast) will speak in the coming Echelon 2010.
  • Live show for This Week in Asia in Barcamp KL and guess what, we hope that one of the Geeks on a Train (#GOAT) from Hackerspace SG can come to our rescue with a camera. The live show is on this Sat (24 April), 2-3 pm Segi College in USJ Subang.
  • The Difference Between China and US Internet Video Markets: Gang Lu talks about the recent Tudou Video Festival 2010. The TWIA crew broke down the discussion points and offered their own opinions to how far China is trailing behind US in the video sharing space.
  • The Chinese Matrix and the War of Internet Addiction: The winner for the Tudou festival have sprung a video created in the form of a parody to mock the Great Firewall of China (GFW) and censorship. We examined the implications and also discussed the increasing Chinese audience learning how to bypass the GFW with VPNs.
  • Reporting our first breaking news thru the tweet from Gang Lu from China: Mobinode TV is now a content partner to Tudou.com.
  • Facebook F8 Developer Conference 2010: We talked about the new announcements made by Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote and how Open Graph APIs, privacy and also the new collaboration between Microsoft and Facebook will impact the users of Facebook in Asia.
