This Week in Asia Episode 23: Don’t Play with the JooJoo
Just 3 hours before the launch of the iPhone OS 4 from Apple, the TWIA crew are back without Mike Foong and John Lim. Instead, we have two special guests tonight: Michael Smith from Yahoo Southeast Asia and Ben Scherrey from Proteus Technologies (Thailand) who come on and share with us their thoughts on the Apple iPad and the bandit iPad clone from China, the recent news about attempted suicides of workers coming from FoxConn, the company which manufacture all these devices, the Phone OS wars in Asia and the survival of JooJoo within the near future. While on these topics, we also talk about our coming live show in Barcamp KL, the Geeks on the Train, and most importantly, the Echelon 2010 happening on 1st and 2nd June.
- The inevitable death of the JooJoo: With disappointing sales and press review from Engadget, is the JooJoo heading towards becoming a DooDoo as coined by Smithy?
- iPad and Asia: We discussed the story of the iPad and how the Chinese has generated a Bandit iPad and worse, we hear about attempted suicides from FoxConn, the outsourcing company which Apple used to manufacture the iPad. We do a quick chat on the coming iPhone OS 4 with 3 hours away from the Apple event in Cupertino.
- From Geeks on a Train to Barcamp KL: We talked about the geeks in Hackerspace SG with their arranged trip to Barcamp KL by taking the train from Singapore to Malaysia. We also provide some details regarding our coming live show for This Week in Asia
- Finally, we talked about the coming Echelon 2010, organized by E27 and how TWIA will be contributing on our end before the members from Geek on a Plane and entrepreneurs within the region will arrive in Singapore.

Haha… I saw that too, Michael.
Hey, great episode guys! This is probably my favorite TWiA episode so far — great discussions on gadgets, Google, Apple, etc. I love it when Ben and Michael joins in. They give additional perspectives outside of Malaysia and Singapore. It is this week in ASIA after all. Bernard/Daniel/Mike/John – you should have these 2 guys more often!
Planning to goto echelon this year. Would love to meet you guys. Am an Entrepreneur from Maldives.
